The Key to Maintenance Part II: Engine Bus Monitoring

Maximizing productive time on the road is the key to profitability. The best defense is having your driver do a detailed inspection. Under FMCSA Hours of Service rules, a DVIR is required. What about the things that may be unseen? The Radius Telematics maintenance program stems from a telematics device connected to the On-Board Diagnostic port of your vehicle to report things like DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) and MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) codes. The Radius Telematics program allows alerting directly to your cell phone or email when these events occur so that you can take immediate action.

A more subtle problem is fuel consumption. We can monitor an increase in fuel consumption and trigger an investigation quickly – long before the trouble light comes on.

Would you like to monitor coolant temperature vs. Time? This parameter is like a snowflake – it is unique for every truck and does not vary even a half a degree. Why wait for a trouble light when you know something is wrong? The difference can mean your engine overheating by 45 degrees waiting for a MIL code.

Time-based maintenance can also be scheduled in the maintenance portal allowing you to maximize vehicle uptime while waiting for driver HOS reset intervals.  Another great feature – taking the guesswork out of the odometer reading. Critical for accurate tax reporting, Radius Telematics removes human error by automatically recording odometer readings as well as position readings for as long as the device is installed in the truck.
